​1723 Adam Smith was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland.​
1737​ Aged 14 Smith went to study moral philosophy at Glasgow University where he later became a professor.​
1750s​ Adam Smith became an integral part of the Scottish Enlightenment.​
1776​ Smith's first book was published – ‘The Theory of Moral Sentiments’. ​
1790​ Adam Smith dies and is buried in Edinburgh’s Cannongate Kirkyard.​
1986​ The Adam Smith Inaugural Lecture is delivered by Dr Tom Johnston, Principal of Heriot-Watt University.​
2005​ On the 1st of August Adam Smith College was created.​
2007​ The Bank of England issues their new £20 bank note featuring Adam Smith – he is the first Scotsman to appear on a Bank of England bank note.​
2010​ Adam Smith College opens its new £17.5 million Future Skills Centre in Glenrothes.​
