The former Prime Minister was in the College to launch a Scottish fundraiser for Pakistan’s flood victims.
The HND Practical Journalism class at Adam Smith College received a surprise visitor this week when Gordon Brown popped in for a chat.
The former Prime Minister was in the College to launch a Scottish fundraiser for Pakistan’s flood victims to build a “Fife Village" in the country and took the time afterwards to join in an impromptu press conference with the students in the College’s Newsroom.
Journalism Lecturer, Marie Penman, who arranged the session, commented: “It was too good an opportunity to miss, having Gordon Brown in the building, so I put in a request for him to meet with our students. They have to take part in a press conference as part of their course, but I don’t think they’d expected it to be with the former Prime Minister!
“Despite being initially taken aback and slightly awestruck when Mr Brown walked through the door, the students rose to the occasion and asked some inquisitive and probing questions.”
Dawn Renton, from the first year class, could hardly contain her excitement: “We just found out on the day that Gordon Brown would be visiting the newsroom and I couldn’t believe it – I had to nip out during break to phone my mum to tell her as I was so thrilled at getting the chance to put my new journalism skills to the test!”
