Proud family members, friends and College staff looked on as the students were presented with a wide range of professional qualifications, HNCs, HNDs and Degrees at the ceremonies held in the impressive setting of St Bryce Kirk, just opposite the College’s St Brycedale Campus. Four graduation ceremonies were held over the two days and students, corporate guests and College staff were invited to a drinks reception in the College’s Atrium after each ceremony. Special guest at Friday’s evening ceremony was Gordon Brown MP, Chancellor of Adam Smith College, who has continued to show his support for the College over the past year.
Gordon Brown MP, Chancellor of Adam Smith College said: “I would like to congratulate all of those who have graduated at the four College graduation ceremonies. Their hard work and commitment to gain their qualifications is exactly what local businesses need to succeed. I was delighted to be able to visit the College on a number of occasions throughout the year and see first-hand the great work being carried out by staff and students.
“The ongoing success of Adam Smith College can be seen in the quality and quantity of students graduating this year in a wide range of subject areas. Our graduates can now go on to make a real difference in today’s society and in the world of work. It gives me great pride to be Chancellor of Adam Smith College and be at the graduation ceremonies to celebrate the achievement of so many people.”
Over 1300 students graduated from Adam Smith College and gained awards in a variety of subject areas such as Education and Care, Sports and Tourism, Creative Industries, Hair and Beauty, Engineering, Science, Computing, finishing on Friday evening with Business, Management and the Fire Service graduands.
Dr Craig Thomson, Principal of Adam Smith College, commented: “Graduation is one of the highlights of our year - a time to celebrate the success of our students and through them, the success of our staff and of the College as a whole. This has been a tremendous year for Adam Smith College, as reflected by the record number of students attending the ceremonies and receiving Higher and Further Education qualifications this year.
“Adam Smith College is committed to providing learning opportunities that meet the needs of today and tomorrow. These are challenging economic times for the college sector, with a huge demand for college places and the prospect of cuts in funding; we must buck the trend of economic downturn and embrace a positive future. As the largest provider of skills in Fife, we recognise our responsibility towards our students and to the wider community.
“I am extremely proud of all of this year’s graduates and wish to congratulate them, as well as the College staff who helped them on their learning journey, and the friends and family who supported them in their studies.
