The 22 year old has left his family and friends behind, over 4,500 miles away, to come and study Hospitality at Adam Smith College with the dream of opening his own restaurant in Nepal within the next few years.

With no facilities or opportunities in his homeland Yam decided to travel to Scotland to study after his sister gave him some good career advice.

Said Yam, “I wasn’t sure where to study but my sister had already been to Adam Smith College and reckoned it was the best College in Scotland. I had originally started a course in London but didn’t feel I was learning much – I’m so glad I took her advice and came to Scotland to study. The students and staff have been very friendly and supportive. I really enjoyed my first year and I’m looking forward to graduating next year with an HND in Hospitality.”

Yam works in his sister’s restaurant the Annapurna Gurkhas in Kirkcaldy High Street part-time which has helped him put his skills and knowledge into practice all of which he will eventually use in his own restaurant.

David Astill, Director for International Business Development said: “Coming from somewhere such as Nepal, which is so very different to here in Scotland, is no easy feat but thanks to Yam’s hard work and the support he has received at College he is making a great success of his time here in Scotland. Having people from around the world from different cultures and backgrounds in our College enriches the learning experience of all our students and we wish Yam every success in the second year of his course.”
