Pupils from two Fife Primary schools helped showcase skills for the future and highlight the benefits of school college partnerships at a high profile conference held recently.
Pupils from St Maries and St Pauls.

Pupils from St Maries in Kirkcaldy and St Pauls in Glenrothes along with staff from Adam Smith College manned a stand at the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) Summit held recently in the Fairmont Hotel, St Andrews.

Delegates at the conference discussed how Scotland could do things differently to become a stronger competitior in the global marketplace.

Pupils from both schools showcased their e-twinning Great Renewable Energy Race Project and demonstrated Robot building – skills and knowledge which are increasingly in demand in the Scottish Engineering and Renewables industries.

Former College Young Engineer Head Girl, Claire Motion, now studying Astrophysics at The University of St Andrew’s addressed the conference about Inspiration, Curiosity and Determination and was warmly praised by delegates.

Bill Hutchison, Lecturer in Robotics at Adam Smith College said, “It is vital that when considering the future of Scotland we look at the skills and knowledge currently being taught in schools to ensure they are tailored to our future needs. Adam Smith College is very aware of this and through our partnership with schools encourages the development and interest in areas such as engineering, science and renewables.

“Our Robot Roadshows in schools and Young Engineer Clubs are a big hit with schools and equally the work we are doing with renewables, and in partnerships with schools such as St. Marie’s primary school international e-twinning project ‘The Great Renwables Energy Race’, is laying the foundations for our future generation to train in these vital areas.

“This event was an ideal opportunity for us to showcase our work to the ‘movers and shakers’ within Scotland’s business world and the pupils also had a fantastic day.”
