Digital SLR Photography Improvers

A leisure course designed to give you confidence in shooting and processing digital images with a digital Single Lens Reflex camera.

This course is for all Digital SLR owners who consider themselves beyond beginner level but needing more opportunities to master and take control of the camera. Building on the skills from the Digital SLR Beginners course and working towards shooting in the RAW file format, you will explore techniques to enable the best quality of picture that your camera can provide.

You can do this course without having completed the beginners course.

What You Study

  • Refresh of the functions of the camera for semi-automatic use
  • Metering and histogram and exposure in depth
  • Focus and depth of field
  • Composition refresher
  • Composition for specific techniques
  • The difference between jpeg and raw file formats
  • Using RAW files with Adobe Camera RAW and your camera manufacturers RAW editor
  • Transferring RAW files to Photoshop
  • Photoshop Editing, the basics refresher, exposure, contrast, sharpening
  • Photoshop Editing more in depth, layers, masks, filters.
  • Presenting images for display/printing
  • Exporting finished files
  • Image Critique

Duration and Attendance

10 weeks – 6 to 9 pm

Entry Requirements

Must be able to shoot RAW file format.

Ideally have Digital SLR though some compact types may be able to shoot RAW.
