Flower Arranging

Beginners

This course is suitable for complete beginners or those with a little knowledge. Learn the basics of flower arranging, what types of flowers and foliage to use together to give the most impact, and create flower arrangements for the home and special occasions.

The aim of this course is to enable the learner to gain skills and knowledge which will enable them to create a range of decorative floral arrangements for the home and for special occasions, using a wide variety of flowers and foliage and containers.

Contemporary

This course is suitable for complete beginners or those with a little knowledge. The course progresses into the more contemporary aspects of flower arranging art. Using a juxtaposition of manmade, organic and natural materials to learn the basic techniques you need to create unique modern flower arrangements.

To introduce and build on skills used in contemporary flower arranging art including types and uses of containers and plant material.

All Students

On the first night students will need to bring a couple of mixed bunches of flowers, a container and scissors.

This is not a floristry course, although certain elements of floristry may be covered.

What You Study

Beginners

  • Basics of flower arranging
  • Design elements such as balance, proportion, shape, colour and texture
  • Selecting and conditioning plant material
  • Create flower arrangements for the home and special occasions

On completion, the learner should be able to apply design elements such as balance, proportion, shape, colour and texture to develop your own themed arrangement. Select and condition plant material, arrange flowers and foliage in a variety of styles.

Contemporary

  • Basics of flower arranging in a contemporary modern setting
  • Design elements such as balance, proportion, shape, colour and texture
  • Use a juxtaposition of manmade, organic and natural materials
  • Selecting and conditioning plant material
  • Create unique flower arrangements for the home and special occasions

On completion, the learner should be able to implement the elements and principles of design into a contemporary flower arranging environment.

Entry Requirements

No previous knowledge required, just an interest in flowers and a willingness to learn.

Course is suitable for those aged 18 years and over.
