HNC Petroleum Engineering

SCQF Level 7

This new course is for those looking to work in the exciting world of petroleum discovery and recovery. It has been designed to meet industry demand for a skilled workforce to work on oil/gas production platforms. You will find out about locating, extracting and purifying the oil and gas before it is delivered to the refineries.

The course will be suitable for those seeking employment in the industry as well as providing underpinning knowledge for the existing workforce. The course content will prepare you for a number of jobs in production and exploration such as Drilling Engineering, Mud Logging, Control Room Operator and Process Engineering Exploration.

What You Study

  • Petroleum Geology, Oilfield Drilling Techniques
  • Reservoir Engineering, Oil Well Management
  • Petroleum Recovery Techniques, Petroleum Production Processes
  • Professional skills such as Project Management and Health and Safety as well as skills in Communications, Information Technology and Mathematics

Duration and Attendance

HNC – One Year Full-time

HND – One year full-time after completion of HNC Petroleum Engineering

Entry Requirements

One of the following:

  • 1 Higher in either Mathematics, Technology, Chemistry or Physics plus 4 Standard Grades at Grade 2 or above/Intermediate 2
  • Relevant NQ course
  • Industrial experience or other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis

AND

  • As part of the selection process there will also be an information session to meet with tutors

Further Study

  • BSc Petroleum Engineering
  • BSc Chemical Engineering: Oil and Gas (Subject to Approval)
