HND Fashion: Design and Production with Retail

SCQF Level 8

Developed to meet the demands of employers, this HND provides advanced study for those who follow on from the NQ Fashion or who have either Highers or practical experience.

Students' creativity thrives on this course. During the HND, all fashion students learn a central group of subjects and how to create fashion design, gather textile and market research, design fashion collections, construct garment patterns, sew and produce fashion garments and learn about fashion promotion, merchandising and selling. In both years students also follow Fashion Business or Fashion Creative specialisms. It is important to name the specialist area that you are interested in at the application stage.

Fashion Business

Students also learn marketing and business planning subjects leading to careers in fashion design, fashion buying, fashion management, visual merchandising or self employment within the fashion field.

Fashion Creative

Students follow a creative approach to fashion design while developing a realistic appreciation of commercial manufacturing processes leading to careers in fashion design, fashion manufacturing or self employment within the fashion field.

Duration and Attendance

Two Years Full-time

Entry Requirements

One of the following:

  • 2 Highers in relevant subjects and 4 Standard Grades at Grade 2 or above
  • NQ Fashion
  • Industrial experience or other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis

AND

  • Successful interview. Please bring an art/fashion portfolio if you are applying for fashion creative and for fashion business if you have one.
