HND Social Sciences

An excellent programme that offers routes into a range of degree programmes, employment and vocational training. The HNC/D focuses on the systematic study of people and society. It also aims to develop transferable skills including communication, analytical ability and the handling of complex information.

Duration and Attendance

  • HNC – One Year Full-time or Two Years Part-time
  • HND – Two Years Full-time

This course is offered as a one year HNC or two year HND. Entry requirements are the same for both.

Entry Requirements

One of the following:

  • 2 Highers at Grade C or above, (one of which must be English and the other should be drawn from a range of relevant subjects which could include Modern Studies, History, Geography, Economics, Politics, Philosophy, Maths, Biology or Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies). In addition, candidates are required to have 2 Standard Grades at Grade 1 or 2 (NC Communication Higher and Literature 1 is an acceptable alternative to Higher English at Grade C)
  • Successful completion of an approved NQ Access to Social Sciences, SWAP Access to Humanities or Primary Teaching programme or an NQ Highers Programme with 6 credits at SCQF level 6, plus 2 Standard Grades at Grade 1 or 2
  • Successful achievement of HNC Group Award qualifications in a relevant subject may be considered as satisfactory entry qualification to HND Social Sciences
  • Entry to HND Social Sciences is possible from HNC Social Sciences but may involve candidates in additional units of study

AND

  • Entry to HNC and HND programmes is by interview
