NC Early Education and Childcare

SCQF Level 6

This NC group award combines theory and practical work experience in an early years setting. You will gain an understanding of the key issues involved in caring for young children, including their needs and how to provide for development and education from birth onwards.

Work Experience

Students undertake a 2 day work placement within a Nursery and Primary School setting. This will enable participants to gain direct experience of working with children. In this way, theory is linked to practice. Patterns of placement may vary between campuses.

Duration and Attendance

One Year Full-time

Entry Requirements

One of the following:

  • 5 Standard Grades; 2 at Grade 2 or above including English and 3 at Grade 3 or above
  • Pre-access to Nursing/Introduction to Childcare/Introduction to Care with 9 passes in 14 assessed credits (including Maths and IT)
  • Alternative equivalent qualifications will be considered on an individual basis

AND

  • Students must also be accepted as a PVG scheme member through the college system. Placements cannot be started without this (see Disclosure Scotland for more information about the Protection of Vulnerable Groups).
