NQ Higher Education Support Assistance

SCQF Level 6

The course is designed for those who wish to work, or are presently working, as an education support assistant (sometimes known as either classroom assistants or support for learning assistants – this covers both these roles). The PDA in Education Support Assistance qualification is built in to this programme.

  • Supporting the Behaviour of Children/Young People
  • Supporting Children and Young People in an Educational Setting
  • Supporting Children and Young People who require Additional Support
  • Professional Practice
  • Core Skills: Information Technology, Communication and Numeracy

Work Experience:

Students will undertake a work placement in a primary school one day per week plus four one-week blocks.

Duration and Attendance

One Year Full-time

Entry Requirements

  • 5 Standard Grades; 2 at Grade 2 or above including English and 3 at Grade 3 or above

AND

  • Students must also be accepted as a PVG scheme member through the College system. Placements cannot be started without this. (see Disclosure Scotland for more information about the Protection of Vulnerable Groups)

  • NC Access to Teacher Training (depending on previous qualifications)
  • SVQ Level 3 Children's Care, Learning and Development
