Patchwork and Quilt Making

This is a project based course which is suitable for complete beginners or those with some knowledge of patchwork and quilt making. First article made is usually something such as a potholder, or cushion, then on to larger articles eg quilts, throws etc or bring along your own project either new or unfinished and get help in this friendly and supportive class.

To provide the learner with the practical skills and knowledge to design and create an individual piece of work using patchwork and quilting techniques eg hand pieced and/or machine.

Students will need to bring basic sewing equipment, and a selection of cotton materials.

What You Study

  • Basic patchwork techniques
  • Explore different ways of developing designs
  • Colour, composition and perspective
  • Hand/Machine stitching
  • Banking, wadding, binding and finishing off
  • Quantities required, measuring and cutting
  • Presentation and displaying work eg wall hangings, framing

On completion, the learner should have created a portfolio of work and completed an article of patchwork and quilting, usually a potholder or cushion or a personal project.

September - 17 weeks x 2 hours

February - 18 weeks x 2 hours

Entry Requirements

No previous knowledge required.

Course is suitable for those aged 16 years and over.
