PDA Diploma Childhood Practice

SCQF Level 8

The PDA in Childhood Practice is designed specifically for qualified Childcare workers (HNC, NNEB, SNNB or equivalent). The aim of the course is to meet the educational, training and development needs of early years practitioners and provide a higher-level qualification. The course will keep up to date with current legislation, policy and practice. It will also allow you to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for team leadership and management. Candidates should be working in or have access to a prolonged placement in an Early Years/Childcare setting.

Duration and Attendance

Between 2 and 2.5 Years – 1 evening per week

Entry Requirements

One of the following:

  • HNC Early Education and Childcare, NNEB, SNNB or equivalent
  • SVQ Level 3 Early Years Care and Education/Children's Care, Learning and Development

AND

  • Students must also be accepted as a PVG scheme member through the College system. Placements cannot be started without this (see Disclosure Scotland for more information about the Protection of Vulnerable Groups)

Further Study

  • Individuals with the HNC plus PDA units can progress on to the new HND Childhood Practice
  • SVQ Level 4 in Children's Care, Learning and Development
  • Credit towards the BA Childhood Practice

Student Expenses

Applicants should have their funding in place prior to the start of the course. An Individual Learning Account may be used towards funding the course.

Fife Childcare Strategy may also offer some funding.
