SVQ Level 2 Business Improvement Techniques

SCQF Level 5

Students have the opportunity to study a number of business improvement techniques, commonly referred to as Lean Six Sigma methodology. Competencies covered depend on the aspirations and work needs of the candidates, and subjects covered include health and safety, teamwork, workplace organisation, visual management and standard operating procedures, plus a broad range of options like process flow optimisation, value stream mapping, mistake proofing and statistical process control. The difference between the qualification levels follows the number of units pursued and the depth of knowledge required. Level 2 comprises 5 mandatory and 1 optional unit. Level 3 comprises 6 mandatory and 2 optional units. Level 4 comprises 7 mandatory and 5 optional units.

Duration and Attendance

This course is undertaken in your workplace under the supervision of experienced operations management professionals using a flexible approach to match individual learning needs. Learning is typically by seminar or tutorial held on a monthly basis, the programme can be commenced at any time, and completion usually takes from 12 to 18 months.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal educational requirements for this programme but eligibility will depend on the candidate's particular job function. Level 2 candidates will generally be team leaders and supervisors; Level 3 candidates will generally be supervisors and junior managers, whilst Level 4 will appeal to more senior managers. Candidates must also ensure the full support of their employer who must be willing to implement change in their workplace.

Further Study

Students may progress through the levels (two, three and four) demonstrating progressively higher levels of competence, or alternatively they may opt for an appropriate HND. There are also options to progress to other vocational programmes.
